Unit Plan Example

Reflective Teaching Journal
Reflection : Differentiated Support in a Science 9 Classroom
Date: During Unit 8 – Science 9
Teaching Activity: Reviewing concepts through a Kahoot quiz
Observation:
- The interactive nature of Kahoot significantly increased student engagement, especially among those with weaker academic foundations.
- Some students appeared highly engaged during the game but showed low accuracy in their responses.
Reflection:
Using gamified methods to increase engagement proved effective, but I realized that participation does not always equate to understanding. In the future, I plan to follow up more closely with students who perform poorly in such activities and design tiered questions to better meet the needs of learners at different levels.
Reflection : The Impact of Teacher Feedback on Student Confidence
Date: Mid-point of teaching practicum
Teaching Activity: Providing feedback and encouragement after marking student quizzes
Observation:
- Some students were initially discouraged by poor test results, but after receiving specific and positive feedback, they showed greater willingness to participate in future tasks.
- A few students proactively asked for ways to improve, showing increased motivation.
Reflection:
This experience reinforced the importance of how teachers communicate feedback. Moving forward, I will continue using the “affirmation followed by suggestions” approach to help students build confidence while also encouraging further learning and improvement.
